Descartes Systems Group announced the results of its 10th Annual Global Transportation Management Benchmark Survey, which found that the share of surveyed North American organizations planning to increase transportation management technology investment rose from 53% in 2017 to 78% in 2026. The study also found that 85% of organizations now view transportation as either a competitive weapon or customer service differentiator, up from 65% in 2017, while business growth is the leading driver of transportation management system adoption for both shippers at 53% and logistics service providers at 48%. Despite that strategic shift, only 19% of shippers and 15% of LSPs report using AI at scale, with data quality cited as the leading barrier by 45% of LSPs and 33% of shippers, followed by integration complexity at 38% and 39% respectively. Growth expectations remain resilient, with 79% of shippers and 84% of LSPs expecting at least 5% annual growth over the next two years, and 74% of LSPs expecting annual growth of 5 to 15%, up 26 percentage points year over year. Descartes and SAPIO Research surveyed 600 senior transportation decision-makers globally, including 300 across the United States and Canada, evenly split between shippers and LSPs.

The Descartes Systems Group Inc. reported record revenue and income from operations for the second quarter of fiscal 2027 on September 10. Quarterly revenue reached $201 million, a 12% increase year-over-year, while services revenue rose 13% to $188.6 million. Income from operations climbed 36% to $65.5 million from $48.2 million a year earlier, and adjusted EBITDA hit a record $94.4 million, up 18%, with a record adjusted EBITDA margin of 47%. Organic services revenue growth was just over 9%, driven by demand for Global Trade Intelligence, e-commerce, transportation management, and fleet performance solutions. The company also recently acquired Extensiv, a provider of warehouse management and fulfillment solutions for third-party logistics providers, and Tai, a provider of advanced transportation management solutions for freight brokers, though management flagged integration risks alongside shipping-market headwinds from tariffs, elevated fuel costs, and driver shortages.

Descartes Systems Group has acquired Extensiv, a warehouse management and fulfillment technology provider, for $120 million in cash, following its $100 million purchase of Tai last week. Extensiv, based in California, serves third-party logistics providers with AI-driven inventory and order fulfillment tools. The deal deepens Descartes' reach into the logistics services market and expands its warehousing and ecommerce offerings. Descartes has also acquired Drivin for $30 million in July and Idelic for $28 million in April, continuing its strategy of filling product portfolio gaps. The company will report its fiscal 2027 second-quarter results on September 10.

Descartes Systems Group announced that Michigan-based K&R International Services is using its global security filing solution to automate European Union Import Control System 2 (ICS2) security filings for charter cargo carriers handling high volumes of ecommerce shipments. The solution standardizes shipment data and automates hundreds of thousands of regulatory submissions per month, enabling K&R to manage tight air cargo security processing windows and maintain responsive customer service as volumes grow. K&R President Kelly McFall noted that a single charter flight can include tens of thousands of individual parcels, making one-at-a-time filings infeasible. Descartes' solution, leveraging the Descartes Global Logistics Network, helps organizations standardize data capture, transmit filings electronically, and manage customs responses and exceptions. Scott Sangster, General Manager of Logistics Services Providers at Descartes, highlighted how automation and connectivity support compliant cargo movement into the EU and worldwide.

Brown Gibbons Lang & Company (BGL) has advised on the sale of Tai Software, an AI-powered transportation management solution for freight brokers, to Descartes Systems Group. Tai, a portfolio company of Accel-KKR, provides a platform that automates broker operations, including quoting, carrier sourcing, load execution, tracking, billing, and customer engagement. The acquisition expands Descartes' transportation management capabilities for freight brokers and adds valuable data to its Global Logistics Network. BGL's Supply Chain Software investment banking team served as the exclusive financial advisor to Tai in the transaction.

The Descartes Systems Group acquired Tai Software for approximately $100 million in cash, expanding its transportation management and logistics network with an AI-powered freight brokerage platform. California-based Tai provides transportation management software that helps freight brokers manage the full shipment lifecycle across truckload, less-than-truckload, drayage, and cross-border operations. The acquisition was funded entirely with cash on hand.

Descartes Systems Group announced a new review management and audit logging capability within its Descartes MyCarrierPortal solution to help freight brokers, third-party logistics providers, and shippers create auditable, transparent carrier selection processes. The new AuditLog feature combines carrier review management and audit logging in a single workflow, automatically documenting risk assessments, management reviews, and onboarding decisions at the time they are made. The launch comes as the U.S. transportation industry faces greater scrutiny following the Supreme Court ruling in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC, with Descartes executives noting that the tool helps organizations establish consistent governance and demonstrate reasonable care in carrier selection.
