Sera Prognostics joins ARPA-H-funded program to develop point-of-care test for safer childbirth

Sera Prognostics is participating in a multi-institutional research program awarded up to $10.4 million by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health to develop a novel point-of-care diagnostic test aimed at improving the safety of labor and delivery. The award, part of ARPA-H's Making Obstetrics Care Smart program, supports a collaboration led by the University of California San Diego alongside Sera Prognostics and Allegro MicroSystems. The team is working on a diagnostic approach that can assess the risk of fetal hypoxia from a small maternal blood sample, with the goal of providing clinicians timely, objective information to guide intervention decisions. Sera will contribute its expertise in protein biomarker discovery and validation to identify signatures that may indicate placental dysfunction, fetal stress, or hypoxia risk. The program will explore integrating identified biomarkers into a rapid point-of-care testing platform, aiming to enable more informed decisions during labor and delivery while potentially reducing unnecessary interventions.
