Planet Labs PBCStock fell 40% as investors rotated capital to SpaceX IPO, despite strong revenue growth and backlog.

Planet Labs shares have dropped over 40% in the past month from an all-time high of about $51 in May to around $28, driven largely by space-focused investors rotating capital into SpaceX at its initial public offering. The company reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue up 42% year over year to $94.2 million and a backlog of $906 million, up 72%, but posted a net loss of $138.9 million, including a $106.5 million one-time noncash accounting adjustment tied to warrant liabilities. Planet Labs ended the quarter with $730.8 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments, and its Defense and Intelligence segment revenue grew more than 65% year over year, supported by a $21.9 million maritime surveillance contract extension with the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The stock trades at a price-to-sales ratio of 26.9, compared to competitor BlackSky Technology at 10.3, and the company is several years away from consistent profitability.
