Iridium Communications IncIridium is being acquired at a premium, providing immediate value to shareholders.
Rocket Lab has agreed to acquire satellite communications provider Iridium for approximately $8 billion in a cash-and-stock transaction expected to close by mid-2027. The deal gives Rocket Lab a higher-margin, cash-generating business with recurring revenue from more than 2.5 million subscribers, along with dozens of satellites, weather-resilient L-band spectrum, and a consumer-facing data network. Rocket Lab, which currently generates most of its revenue from launch services and satellite subsystems, aims to improve scale and diversification, becoming the only company besides SpaceX to control the entire space-economy stack—from factory and rocket to spectrum and orbital operations.
