Tourism and Sports Ministry postpones 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' 4-billion-baht scheme to April 2027, pressuring tourism stocks lower

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has postponed the implementation of the Thai Tiew Thai Plus scheme, worth 4 billion baht, from its original date of 1 October 2026 to around April 2027, and will not bring the matter before the Cabinet within this September. According to Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phanchareonworakul, the majority opinion was that the budget should be pooled and rolled out during the low season to deliver the greatest benefit to the economy, and he confirmed that a budget framework for the project is already in place. The delay pressured tourism stocks to reverse from gains into declines, with ERW down 4.15%, falling 0.16 baht to trade at 3.70 baht, CENTEL down 2.84%, falling 1.25 baht to trade at 42.75 baht, MINT down 1.84%, falling 0.40 baht to trade at 21.30 baht, and SPA down 1.33%, falling 0.04 baht to trade at 2.96 baht. TTBE Wealth sees this in the short term as negative sentiment for the hotel group following earlier speculative buying, but expects second-half profits to still grow, and views the postponement of the stimulus measure to the low season as more beneficial for the hotel group, still favouring ERW, CENTEL and MINT.
