OraSure Returns to Profit but Growth Remains Elusive

OraSure Technologies reported second-quarter 2026 results that included its first GAAP net income in years, a headline number of $6.2 million versus a $19.7 million loss a year earlier, though the profit came almost entirely from a $22.6 million reduction in a contingent consideration liability tied to a regulatory setback. Revenue of $30.6 million beat guidance and climbed 9.7% from the prior quarter, but total revenue was still down 2% year over year, and core revenue was flat. Diagnostics revenue grew 1% to $19.4 million, helped by higher syphilis test sales and the BioMedomics Sickle SCAN product line, while the company won FDA clearance for its Colli-Pee Dx urine collection kit and Emergency Use Authorization for the OraQuick Ebola 2.0 test. However, non-GAAP operating loss widened to $14.7 million from $13.2 million, and non-GAAP net loss was $13.8 million, roughly in line with last year's $14.2 million loss. The company also withdrew its InteliQuick CT/NG molecular self-test submission after FDA feedback, delaying that product's path to market, and cash and equivalents fell to $161 million from $199.3 million at the end of 2025.

FDA Grants OraSure's OraQuick Ebola 2.0 Antigen Test Emergency Use Authorization

OraSure Technologies has received Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its OraQuick Ebola 2.0 Rapid Test Antigen. The single-use qualitative immunoassay detects antigens from all four disease-causing Orthoebolavirus species—Bundibugyo, Zaire, Sudan, and Taï Forest—and delivers results in 30 minutes without instruments, batteries, smartphones, or laboratory analysis. It is the first and only fully authorized rapid antigen test for Ebola detection, and the second-generation version features improved sensitivity, updated chemistry, and an automated manufacturing process. The test was developed in collaboration with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority under a 2022 contract, and OraSure is scaling up production to meet demand amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. OraSure shares closed Tuesday at $3.80, down 1.30%, and were trading up 1.05% at $3.84 in the overnight market.
