The deployment uses Nokia's ICE-X 800G ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable technology with IP-over-DWDM networking to add capacity on Telxius' existing terrestrial infrastructure while reducing the power and space required for expansion. It also employs Nokia network automation, giving Telxius full visibility, fault and performance monitoring, and coordinated service provisioning across its optical transport network. The initiative builds on a recent industry-record demonstration of Nokia ICE-X 800G ZR+ coherent pluggable optics over the BRUSA subsea cable system, which delivered 400Gb/s per wavelength across more than 5,600 km. Jesús María Rubio, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Telxius, said the deployment and the BRUSA trial reinforce the company's position at the forefront of optical innovation, while Nokia's Ron Johnson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Networks, said the technology gives Telxius a high-performance foundation for data center interconnection and seamless connectivity between terrestrial and subsea networks.
Harmonic Launches cOS SensAI for Broadband Networks
Harmonic unveiled cOS SensAI on September 8, a vendor-agnostic software layer that pulls scattered network data from routers, modems, and in-home devices into one coherent operational picture for broadband providers. Analysys Mason estimates the addressable market for such a tool at roughly $2.2 billion a year among tier two and smaller operators, though Harmonic has disclosed no revenue attached to SensAI yet and the only customers named publicly, Hotwire Communications and GCI, are early reference accounts. The launch follows a quarter in which Harmonic reported Broadband revenue up 54% year over year for the period ended July 3, with the Rest-of-Market segment growing 44% and supplying about 60% of bookings, while backlog and deferred revenue reached $587.6 million, up 71%, and cash climbed to $231.9 million after the $145 million sale of its Video business to MediaKind on June 16. The cOS platform was running across 161 customers and 48.2 million connected devices by that point. Skepticism remains: the stock fell 6.25% on the launch, the top two customers accounted for 63% of Broadband revenue in the quarter, up from 58% the prior quarter, and the company posted a GAAP net loss of $0.02 per share, weighed down by a $19.4 million loss from discontinued operations tied to winding down the divested Video business.
F5 Launches Agentless Workforce AI Security Offering
F5 announced the upcoming availability of F5 Workforce AI Security, a new agentless offering within the F5 AI Security Platform that gives organizations visibility and policy control over employee AI use and actions taken by AI agents on users' behalf. The Seattle-based company, which trades on NASDAQ under FFIV, said the offering is designed to govern workforce AI use, attribute AI interactions to users and agents, control agent actions before execution, and enforce policy in the interaction path. According to F5's 2026 State of Application Strategy Report, 66% of organizations already permit AI to automatically adjust policies and configurations. Kunal Anand, Chief Product Officer at F5, said employees are handing work to AI agents that can reach into enterprise systems, call tools, and change data on their behalf, and that Workforce AI Security applies intent-based guardrails in the network path to enforce policy before risky actions occur. The offering requires no additional endpoint client and integrates into existing SASE environments, with capabilities spanning browsers, CLIs, coding agents, MCP clients, and agent harnesses.
Cisco Launches AI POD for Splunk, Targets On-Premises AI Computing
Cisco rolled out version 1.0 of Cisco AI POD for Splunk on Monday, giving enterprises a way to run Splunk's AI capabilities inside their own infrastructure. The September 14 release brings Splunk's AI tier onto Red Hat OpenShift while combining Cisco compute infrastructure, Nvidia GPU acceleration and Splunk software, letting customers deploy tools including AI Assistant and AI Toolkit while keeping the OpenShift environment under their own control. Cisco Systems traded about 1.5% lower at $110.395, though the documentation itself does not tie the launch to the share-price decline. The stock trades 48.38% above a GF Value estimate of $74.40, a premium that suggests investors are already paying for substantial execution. Cisco is positioning itself to collect infrastructure demand as enterprises move AI workloads from experimentation into production, but the real test will be whether customers deploy these systems at scale and generate enough recurring economics to justify both the operating cost and the elevated valuation.
Ciena Launches $200M Venture Capital Firm Ciena Ventures
Ciena unveiled a new $200M venture capital firm, Ciena Ventures, on Monday, with the investments aimed at the networking industry. The venture firm will invest in early-stage companies and tech-focused venture funds to help with Ciena's push to advance the future of networking in the artificial intelligence era. "As technologies such as AI reshape the networking landscape, Ciena Ventures provides another vehicle for executing on our long-term strategy and capital allocation priorities," said Ciena Chief Strategy Officer and executive vice president David Rothenstein in a statement. Rothenstein added that investing in companies and funds through Ciena Ventures will enable the accelerated development of transformative solutions, strengthen the broader innovation ecosystem, expand Ciena's visibility into emerging technologies, and help the company evolve its portfolio, develop new solutions, and pursue opportunities in adjacent markets. Ciena shares fell 6.8% in premarket trading amid a sell-off in AI-linked stocks.
ESpanix Deploys Nokia Deepfield Defender to Shield Spain's Internet Traffic
Nokia announced that ESpanix, Spain's largest internet exchange point, has selected and deployed Nokia Deepfield Defender to protect its exchange platform and connected networks against distributed denial-of-service attacks. The deployment lets ESpanix offer DDoS protection as a new, optional value-added service to the more than 200 national and international networks that exchange traffic at the ESpanix Node and together serve the vast majority of internet end users in Spain. Detection and mitigation happen inside ESpanix's own network, across the six datacentres in Madrid and Barcelona where it connects with members, so Spanish internet traffic stays in Spain and no member traffic is rerouted to external scrubbing centers. Javier Achirica, CTO of ESpanix, said the AI-driven detection granularity lets the exchange isolate and remove only unwanted traffic, while Jeff Smith, Vice President and General Manager of Nokia Deepfield, said the deployment shows how European internet exchanges can turn security into resilience and a new source of value. The deployment extends a partnership that in 2025 made ESpanix the first IXP in Spain to offer 400G connectivity to its customers, built on Nokia interconnect and service routers running over Nokia optical transport.
Arista Issues Critical EOS and VeloCloud Security Advisories
Arista Networks released a batch of security advisories on September 9, turning an advance warning into an immediate customer maintenance task, with critical vulnerabilities affecting EOS and VeloCloud. Arista's updated summary lists critical EOS gNPSI and P4Runtime vulnerabilities with CVSS v3.1 scores of 10, alongside other findings, and customers must assess the conditions and remediation for their own environments. Cisco Systems' September 4 security commentary describes the broader problem, saying vulnerability discovery is accelerating beyond customers' ability to remediate it, and its September 2 advisories already include critical issues involving IOS XR and Nexus 9000 switches using Silicon One, with customers directed to fixed software. Cisco says it scanned 1.8 billion lines of code across 25 languages in eight weeks using frontier models, while Arista's May statement said AI-assisted testing caught complex flaws before software release. For both Cisco Systems and Arista Networks, the investment question is whether suppliers can keep expanding AI networks without letting the cost and disruption of securing them erode customer confidence, since finding defects creates engineering and service obligations before it creates incremental revenue.
Ciena Backlog Hits $8.5 Billion as AI Demand Outruns Supply
Ciena Corporation reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results on September 3, with revenue climbing 37% year over year to $1.67 billion, adjusted earnings per share more than tripling to $2.11, and order backlog swelling to $8.5 billion. Backlog grew by $800 million in the quarter alone, and management said bookings in just the first month of the fourth quarter came close to matching all of the third quarter's orders, projecting more than $10 billion in backlog by the end of fiscal 2026 with visibility stretching into fiscal 2028. Optical networking revenue rose 46% to $1.19 billion, cloud provider revenue grew more than 80%, and interconnects revenue more than doubled, while adjusted gross margin reached a record 46.4% and adjusted operating margin hit 22.5%. Ciena signed long-term component agreements through 2029 to lock in supply, and executives said cash from operations is expected to decline in the fourth quarter as the company disperses funds to support those agreements. Two customers each accounted for more than 10% of revenue, together making up 41.7% of the total, and the new Canadian tariff regime was flagged as a potential $10 million-a-quarter headwind.
