ASML Weighs Pushing EUV Output Past 110 Systems in 2028

ASML Holding is exploring whether it can push EUV production beyond 110 systems in 2028, according to JPMorgan analysts cited by Reuters. The company is nearly sold out for 2027, when capacity reaches at least 80 EUV machines, so hitting 110 systems in 2028 would mean lifting annual output by at least 37.5% from that level. JPMorgan said supplier capacity is not the main constraint, with the bigger question being how quickly ASML can assemble these enormously complex machines without compromising execution. The financial engine is already running hot: ASML generated 8.9 billion in second-quarter sales, delivered a 54% gross margin and earned 2.9 billion in net income, while High-NA adoption is expected to start contributing in 2028. The U.S. shares gained approximately 1.6% to $1,626.48 Thursday, and the stock trades 28.86% above the roughly $1,260 GF Value estimate.

Samsung Deepens AI Chip Push With Mistral AI and ASML Deals

Samsung Electronics agreed a new collaboration with Mistral AI to deploy advanced on-premises AI models in chip manufacturing, and expanded its partnership with ASML to include High NA EUV lithography for future memory and logic production lines. The company plans to use these AI and High NA EUV tools to support precision, security and efficiency in its semiconductor operations. Samsung runs a broad hardware and components portfolio across consumer devices, IT and mobile, and chipmaking, so tighter links with specialist AI model developers and lithography equipment suppliers speak directly to how its device solutions arm positions itself within global semiconductor supply chains. The move strengthens the Samsung Electronics Narrative catalyst around tight memory supply and HBM4E demand, while closer cooperation with ASML on High NA EUV and 12 inch photomasks leans into the heavy R&D and capex risk already flagged, since each new generation of tools can lift capital intensity and execution pressure in fabs. Investors should watch how Samsung describes AI enabled yield, defect detection and High NA EUV deployment progress in its next few quarterly disclosures, especially any 2027 to 2028 updates tied to planned High NA introduction in DRAM high volume manufacturing.

ArcelorMittal Halts Kryvyi Rih Primary Steel Production After Missile Strike

ArcelorMittal reported that a ballistic missile strike hit its Kryvyi Rih facility in Ukraine, causing casualties and severe damage and forcing a suspension of primary steel production at the integrated plant. Management described the strike as part of a recent pattern of security incidents affecting the Kryvyi Rih complex and surrounding infrastructure. ArcelorMittal is a €47.7b metals and mining group with integrated steel and mining operations across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa, so the disruption at Kryvyi Rih affects a wider production network rather than a single isolated mill. The company said the incident does not change its core thesis around green steel projects, cloud partnerships, or growth in India and Brazil, but it adds operational uncertainty to how reliably it can run and optimize its global asset base. The next checkpoint will be a detailed operational update on Kryvyi Rih, including repair timelines for ironmaking complex #1, guidance on primary steel output from Ukraine, and any revision to group-wide production or capex plans.

ASML Weighs Producing Over 110 EUV Tools in 2028 on AI Demand

ASML Holding N.V. is examining ways to produce more than 110 EUV lithography systems in 2028, according to JPMorgan analysts following a meeting with CFO Roger Dassen. The company is already nearly sold out for 2027 and expects to produce at least 80 EUV systems that year, so output above 110 in 2028 would represent at least a 37.5% increase from the 2027 level. JPMorgan said the main constraint has shifted toward assembly speed rather than the availability of critical components, suggesting ASML believes additional capacity can be unlocked through manufacturing and assembly improvements. The potential increase is being driven primarily by AI-related demand, with ASML's existing EUV machines, which cost roughly $200 million each, essential for manufacturing leading-edge AI processors, while customers including TSMC, Samsung, SK Hynix and Intel are expanding advanced-chip capacity. Reuters reported separately that virtually all of ASML's EUV production capacity is booked through 2027, while the company has begun construction of a new Eindhoven facility designed to accelerate tool assembly and eventually accommodate up to 20,000 workers.

European AI Stocks Slide as ASML, Soitec Lead Sell-Off

European semiconductor stocks tied to the AI infrastructure boom sold off sharply on September 14 after prominent artificial intelligence figures called for a more cautious pace of frontier-model development. ASML fell about 5.2%, ASM International dropped 8.7%, Infineon lost 7.6%, and Soitec was the worst performer in the Stoxx 600 with a decline of roughly 12.6%. The reversal was especially stark for Soitec, which less than two weeks earlier, on September 2, had upgraded second-quarter revenue guidance to around 50% year-on-year growth from more than 30%, driven by demand for its Photonics-SOI products used in high-speed optical connections inside AI data centers, and now expects full-year Photonics-SOI revenue to reach between 2.5 and three times the prior year's level of just over $100 million. ASML, whose lithography machines are essential for manufacturing the world's most advanced chips, generated €9.3 billion of net sales in the second quarter. The sell-off landed on a market already dealing with higher oil prices and rising bond yields, and some software and information companies previously seen as AI casualties rose as the hardware trade fell, suggesting investors were reconsidering who wins if the AI race proceeds more slowly than assumed.

Bernstein Says Cards Win in Agentic Commerce as Meta and Anthropic Launch AI Shopping Tools

Agentic commerce still accounts for less than 1% of overall e-commerce activity, even as Meta and Anthropic rolled out new AI shopping tools this week. Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent that can autonomously handle multistep tasks including email, travel booking, shopping and project management, while Anthropic launched Commerce Agents, an open-source framework for building consumer shopping agents and merchant-side operational agents rather than a standalone shopping assistant. Bernstein analysts said agentic commerce is often framed as a risk for Visa and Mastercard but is "very much the opposite," citing more digitization, transactions and value-added services, and argued cards will remain the payment method of choice given their dispute management, standards and more than 7 billion credentials and 100 million-plus merchants. The firm said none of the recent agent launches currently seek to control merchant payments, and that Visa and Mastercard have developed their own agentic tokens and standards including Trusted Agent Protocol, Verifiable Intent, Agent Pay and Intelligent Commerce, with 100% of agentic transactions expected to be tokenized. Bernstein also flagged a differentiation opportunity for processors such as Adyen, which launched Adyen Agentic this summer, and noted that agent-to-agent micro-payments remain in the "proof-of-concept stage," citing Coinbase and Cloudflare's x402 protocol, which has generated roughly $0.5 million to $1 million in monthly volume a year after launch with average transaction sizes of about $0.20. GenAI referral traffic as a share of total referrals has climbed sharply over the past two years, reaching 39% for Wayfair, 28% for Walmart, 25% for Target, 23% for Etsy and 22% for eBay as of August 2026, though that traffic represents only 1-2% of total traffic for these retailers, and a Visa survey cited in the note found only 23% of consumers trust AI agents to conduct payment transactions on their behalf. Bernstein rates Visa, Mastercard and Adyen "outperform."

TSMC and ASML Team Up to Expand Large-Format Photomasks for High NA EUV

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, is teaming up with ASML Holding N.V. to advance the semiconductor industry's shift toward larger-format extreme ultraviolet photomasks. The companies established the industrywide initiative on Sept. 7, ahead of the annual SPIE BACUS Conference in Monterey, CA, aiming to establish a 12-inch mask pilot line by 2031 and pave the way for 12-inch High-NA lithography systems to enter advanced-node production by 2033. While High Numerical Aperture EUV will initially be adopted for production using the current 6-inch masks, the transition to larger 12-inch masks is expected to boost fab productivity, lower chipmaking costs and eliminate stitching constraints across the semiconductor industry. TSMC plans to use ASML's High-NA technology in high-volume manufacturing for advanced nodes starting in 2030, and expects more layers to require High NA EUV as nodes advance, primarily because of increasingly complex transistor architectures needed for AI applications. Separately, Intel Foundry and ASML said High NA is now being used in high-volume manufacturing, with more than one million wafers processed to date across early tool certification and testing, research and development, and volume production on select layers for a subset of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, code-named Panther Lake.

NVIDIA and ASML Back Mistral's €3 Billion Round

NVIDIA and ASML have joined Mistral's €3 billion Series D round, which was announced on September 8 and values the European AI company at over €21 billion post-money. Both companies participated as existing investors, though their individual contributions were not disclosed. The funding will support Mistral's research, infrastructure, and commercial operations. For NVIDIA, the investment could drive demand for its computing systems, as Mistral's cloud platform is planned to use 18,000 Grace Blackwell systems. ASML, meanwhile, sees potential in Mistral's AI for improving chip manufacturing, with early pilots detecting subsystem errors over 70% faster. However, the payoffs differ: NVIDIA benefits from expanded infrastructure demand, while ASML's gains depend on the scalability of Mistral's engineering applications.

Intel Surges 8% on High-NA Milestone

Intel Corporation crossed the one-million-wafer milestone using high-numerical-aperture extreme-ultraviolet technology, sending shares up about 7.6% to $103.07 and adding roughly $37 billion in market value. The company and ASML also proved that reticle stitching can pair High-NA equipment with existing six-inch masks, potentially sparing chip designers from an expensive redesign. Intel said certain Intel 18A layers manufactured with High-NA delivered performance matching or beating equivalent layers made with conventional EUV systems, and the technology has moved into limited Panther Lake production. Intel's latest quarter produced $16.1 billion in revenue alongside approximately $8.4 billion of negative adjusted free cash flow. GuruFocus places GF Value at $31.96, leaving the $103.07 share price 222.5% above that estimate, highlighting the challenge of justifying the premium with profitable outside foundry contracts.

DOJ Expands Beef Price Probe to Eight Retailers Including Walmart and Amazon

The Department of Justice has expanded its beef price investigation to include eight major grocery retailers—Walmart, Costco, Amazon, Kroger, Publix, Albertsons, Aldi, and Ahold Delhaize USA—amid concerns over high beef prices and inflation ahead of the midterm elections. The DOJ announced the probe on September 1, calling beef prices a priority, and it builds on an earlier antitrust investigation into meatpackers launched in May. The average price of ground beef hit $6.89 per pound in July, up 10% from a year earlier, driven by drought, screwworm infestations, and tariffs. The administration has also taken steps to ease prices, including allowing imports of Brazilian and Argentine beef, which drew backlash from ranchers. Meanwhile, meatpackers like Tyson and JBS have reported significant losses, and the DOJ's scrutiny of retailers marks a new front in the effort to address affordability.

InPost Cuts 2026 Outlook as Margins Slip Despite Revenue Growth

InPost reported first-half revenue of €1.89 billion, up 24% from a year earlier, after handling 740 million global shipments, a 23% increase, but adjusted EBITDA grew just 0.3% to €457.5 million, and the company cut its 2026 outlook, now expecting adjusted EBITDA to fall by a mid-single-digit percentage instead of staying flat. International operations contributed 54% of total revenue, with Eurozone second-quarter shipment volumes up 30% to 101 million parcels and revenue up 37.9% to €287.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA in the region rose almost 40%. Net profit fell 30% to 93 million zlotys in the second quarter, hit by higher depreciation, a higher tax rate, and foreign-exchange pressure, and adjusted core-profit margin fell 3.3 percentage points in the quarter and 5.7 points in the first half. The downgrade reflects higher investment costs, tougher pricing in Poland, and the ongoing turnaround in Britain and Ireland, where InPost is still revamping the former Yodel business. InPost is also the target of a €7.8 billion takeover offer from a consortium led by FedEx and Advent International, which runs until September 18.
